Lynn just completed a very exciting research project and submitted her findings. It's rather hush-hush for now; but you'll definitely hear more about this in August.

Monday... Another day "off." The girls all use it to attend a product knowledge class. They learn even more about all the shampoo’s, treatments, and styling products that Redken produces, as well as how to offer them to our guests so that they can achieve better results when styling their own hair at home. This was also Lynn's 3rd shadow.
October 4, 2010
Lynn completed her second shadow for a class at the Salon Centric store in Tacoma Washington. It covered the entire Redken Color Collection. Lynn was able to participate by describing her experiences at the last Redken Symposium and telling the students what a wonderful opportunity it is for them to observe some of the best stylists, colorists, and business professionals in the industry.
September 25-27, 2010
Lynn was in Scottsdale Arizona for 3 days of Redken Artist training at the Fall Redken Artist Connection. It was held at the fabulous Scottsdale Paradise Resort! She learned all about the new Redken products that will be launched during the next year. We also did a hands on program of design and finishing with a splash of color thrown in. I learned a really neat rick-rack technique to create lots of texture within the hair design. The Redken Artist Connection is a semi-annual event that Redken Artists are required to attend to learn about new products and new styles.

Back to Tampa!
The third and final phase of Redken Artist Induction training was all about design and finishing. The basics of haircutting and styling were broken them down into their simplest forms. There was a lot of "re-learning" as the best techniques for tool usage were fully explained and stressed. “Skills excellence” was defined, and the inportance of putting a proper finish on a cut was emphasized. Also covered was advanced product knowledge, and the importance of suggesting the proper products to our clients so they can replicate the styles we create on them in the salon, at home themselves. The finer points of facilitation rounded-out the week.
From Lynn:
"During our 3 phases of Artist Induction, we had the wonderful opportunity to watch two of Redken’s up and coming Artists grow and become even better facilitators. Leah Hanson and Brayden Pelletier are both extremely talented teachers. Leah has been promoted to a position within the company as an Artist Educator in Florida where she lives, and Brayden is now teaching design and finishing all over the southern United States just like he did for us. Congratulations to both of them. They showed us just how far the Redken Artist program can take you."
"At the end of the week we had a graduation ceremony and celebration and I am now a Redken Artist. I belong to a group of people that are about 450 strong in the united states and we work together to help spread the word about the wonderful world of Redken and their mantra, LEARN BETTER,EARN BETTER, LIVE BETTER!"
July 24-28, 2010
Lynn's back in Tampa, FL for Phase 2 of Redken Artist Induction. It was mostly about Lynn's favorite subject: Color! The elite group delved into the principles and science of haircolor, formulation and application techniques. Additionally, there was a valuable discussion of several competitive brands and how they compare to Redken. Facilitation skills were further honed, and the nervousness is subsiding. Special thanks to David Stanko, a Redken Haircolor consultant, Eric Ray and Scott Sueper. Eric Ray also teaches at the Redken Exchange in NYC.

Lynn and Dave attended "It's About Time," a Leadership/Salon Management seminar facilitated by Peter Mahoney and sponsored by Redken in Lynnwood, WA. Peter leads Salon Consultants International, and is one of the most respected personal development coaches in the hair care industry. He truly "grows people for a living," and effectively motivates others to do the same. Lynn is now tightly focused on mentoring junior stylists and transferring her knowledge and skills to the next generation.

In Lynn's own words: "Phase One of Redken Artist Training consisted of business building: Art of Consultation, personal development and learning to facilitate. It was 4 days of very intense learning and wonderful bonding with 32 of the best stylists that Redken has to offer. The people I met were from all over the US and had every kind of personality you can imagine. No big egos, just lots of amazing people with the same passion for the hair profession that I have."

She is super excited over her opportunity to train and network with over 30 of the best up-and-coming stylists in the country. Lynn will be making two more Tampa trips in July and August before attaining the special status of "Redken Artist." She will be absent from Harbor Hair Design for approximately six days during each session. Lynn's husband, Dave, is also excited (about Pizza).

Classes included training on the new Scruples highlighting system and cutting curly/textured hair. Lynn's 3 week long anxiety attack turned into a huge sigh of relief this evening. She was formally notified that she will be in the 2010 class of Redken Artists. Her training will be at "TSPA" (The Salon Professional Academy) in Tampa, Florida and will require three separate round trips in May, July and August. Lynn is very excited, to say the least. The term "SuperAmped" would be much more fitting.

For the past several months, Lynn has been preparing an application/audition package for the purpose of becoming a "Redken Artist." Redken Artists travel locally and conduct training seminars in hair salons and distributor's classrooms. The package consists of a 30 minute video, a resume, several letters of recommendations, and documentation of business tracking methodology. It was submitted today. Twenty one applicants are competing for 10 open positions. The deadline for submission is not until 31 March, so Lynn may be on edge for quite a few weeks. Lynn is very excited about possibly being provided the opportunity to give something back to the industry she is so passionate about by nurturing the next generation of stylists.
Special thanks to Holly Gilman for donating her time and modeling skills to Lynn's video, and to Kitsap Technical Writing for developing her beautiful resume. Liberty Video Transfer also provided invaluable last-minute services.

Sunday. The staff all traveled together to Bellevue to attend "Undressed; Creativity Exposed." Sponsored by Maly's, this all-day exhibition by the top names in the salon industry focused on the power of inspiration. As usual, our staff was clearly the most interactive group in attendance, as well as the last to leave. They are all excited about their new knowledge and extremely anxious to apply it.

It happened on Monday - their day off. The entire staff attended an in-salon Advanced Color Techniques class taught by Redken educator Mandy McCullough.
As always, the stylists are all very excited about increasing their skill level and efficiency in order to better serve their clients.
Special thanks to Mandy for her "professionalism with fun" approach to education.

Lynn received her all-important letter from Redken. She is now a Redken Certified Haircolorist (and is also much easier to live with).
Harbor Hair Design may have just become the only salon in Washington State with TWO Redken Certified Haircolorists on-site. The time that Lynn and Sue invested in this program not only allowed them to attain this prestigious title; it also allows them to better serve their clients.
The art and science of Hair Coloring is all about predictable results, and the stylists at Harbor Hair Design have proven to be much better than the average salon in this area. They routinely perform color correction on clients who had recently received a less than acceptable coloring at far more "distinguished" salons within the Seattle metropolitan area.
Put quite simply: Hair coloring at Harbor Hair Design is as good as it gets.
March 15, 2009
Lynn returned from another trip to the Redken Exchange in NYC. This time, she has a high degree of confidence that she scored very well on her exam. Lynn will be officially notified of her results for another 8 weeks. Harbor Hair Design will likely soon have two Redken Certified Haircolorists.

Lynn has just returned from the Redken Symposium in Las Vegas. The occasion was heralded as: “The industry's most exciting, inspiring, award-winning educational event!” This year’s Symposium was held at the Mandalay Bay Resort.
While there, Lynn’s schedule was extremely full. During the two busy days, she attended advanced classes in Color correction, Custom Color, Blonding Techniques, Expanding the Creative Comfort Zone, Space Utilization and Elevating Customer Service.
Lynn came back with a renewed exuberance for her profession and with a wealth of information, which she will be very actively sharing with all of her fellow stylists.
Many thanks to Redken for providing such a high quality educational experience, and also for its continuing superior support of the independent salon industry.

Lynn and Dave lost Beamer, one of their two precious Airedale Terriers, to cancer. Beamer served as the salon mascot during his early puppy training. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ridgetop Animal Hospital and our many friends for helping us through this difficult time, View Beamer's obituary by clicking here.

Lynn's new web site goes live with her husband, Dave, as the author/editor and administrator. Many thanks to Jeremy Moff at Moff Interactive for putting this all together and making the site so easy to edit and maintain. The whole experience was very enjoyable Future plans include the addition of a Frequently Asked Questions page to assist you in making the best decisions for maintaining your healthy hair.
2008
2008 was a great year. Sue became Kitsap Peninsula's first Redken Certified Haircolorist. Lynn will complete her certification in March of 2009. Through very active sharing of information, all of our stylists are now highly trained on the entire Redken product line. Lynn has made the decision to concentrate mainly on one line in order to enable the most predictable outcomes. Redken provides Lynn with high quality education and excellent support.
Lynn also made the decision to concentrate solely on what she knows best... your hair! She will not be offering nail services in the future. Her esthetician room has been forever converted into a lunch/break room for all of the deserving stylists. Basic facial waxing services are still being offered for your convenience.
